BASI Level 2: teach in the mountains
BASI's eight-day Level 2 course builds your teaching and riding across mountain terrain. A four-day UK Level 2 option also exists.
In this guide
- What it is: BASI's second level, in ski or snowboard.
- What you need first: The BASI Level 1 qualification in the same discipline.
- What you'll learn: The Central Theme, the TIED teaching model, lesson planning and delivery, group management and safety. Ski adds bumps, steeps, variable snow and freestyle. Snowboard adds fitness and off-snow theory.
- Cost: BASI's Level 2 course fee is £900 from 1 June 2026. Lift passes aren't included.
- What's next: BASI Level 3 ISIA.
Bigger hills, more terrain and real ski school days. That's Level 2.
Full Level 2 (8 days)
- Ski: you're assessed on teaching up to and including parallel skiing on marked pistes, within a ski school.
- Snowboard: you're assessed on teaching the Central Theme up to and including basic turning, and on instructing in a patrolled area.
UK Level 2 (4 days)
This course builds on Level 1 and focuses on your teaching. By the end, you should be able to teach safely and effectively in a mountain or centre-based environment (for skiers, up to and including parallel skiing). Skiers who pass can convert to the full Level 2 through the four-day Ski Level 2 Re-assessment course.
Re-assessment
If you fail one element of the full course (teaching or technical), there's a four-day re-assessment. Fail both and you retake the full course. For snowboarders, the original course must be within the last two years.
