BASI Level 3 ISIA: the international instructor
BASI Level 3 ISIA is built from teaching and technical modules, logged teaching hours and a second discipline.
- What it is: BASI's international-standard qualification, built from separate modules.
- What you need first: The BASI Level 2 qualification in your main discipline.
- What you'll learn: Advanced teaching strategies, technical riding and performance analysis.
- Cost: Not published on BASI's course pages. Lift passes aren't included.
- What's next: BASI Level 4 ISTD.
Seasons, not weekends. Level 3 is for instructors who want teaching to be their job.
What it's built from
- Level 3 Teaching (4 days): learner-focused teaching and adapting your style.
- Level 3 Technical (5 days): your own riding or skiing, and performance analysis beyond the Central Theme.
- 200 hours of teaching: part of the Level 3 ISIA pathway, ideally in a mountain environment. Skiers are strongly advised to finish them before the Teaching course. Snowboarders should have them done, or be working towards them, by then.
- A second discipline: the ISIA minimum standards ask for a Level 1 instructor course in another discipline, such as ski, snowboard, adaptive, telemark or cross-country.
Snowboarders on the Level 3 Technical course must bring a transceiver, avalanche shovel and probe, in a small rucksack.
